Kunkletown man jailed after setting fire in Polk Township

David Frantz Sr., 60, of Kunkletown, was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, following his arraignment on Monday on charges that he initiated a reckless burn at a property on Molasses Valley Road in Polk Township.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Paul Gasper of Stroudsburg, who denied Frantz bail.

State police at the Lehighton barracks provided the details of incidents that happened between 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day. Police said the daylong incidents culminated with the Polk and Kunkletown fire departments having to respond to the property to extinguish the fire. Damages to the grassy area were listed at $50.

Police said Frantz arrived at the residence at the above address at 3 o’clock in the morning and attempted to enter it when he is restricted from doing so as part of bail conditions he faces. Two hours later, he returned to the residence and gained entry through the front door before departing.

Police said he came back to the residence between 2:30 and 3 o’clock that afternoon and was banging on a rear door, demanding the victims give him power to outside structures.

Police said troopers arrived at the scene and discovered a large uncontrolled brush/vegetation fire in the field behind the home. Frantz was observed on a garden tractor near the fire and admitted to setting the fire during windy and dry conditions.
