Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during its March monthly meeting.
• Adopted an amendment to the vehicles and traffic ordinance to add a stop sign for northbound traffic at the intersection of Rhume and Allen streets.
• Reported the new interest rates for various CDs the borough has have made up for the borough transferring these CDs to new ones. The previous CDs had only been earning between 0.55 and 0.85 percent interest, while the new CDs are earning 4.19 percent.
• Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani commended Chip Stalega of Barry Isett and Associates for his work on code enforcement for the borough. “He goes above and beyond for this borough,” she said.
• Approved the 2023 road project bids to the lowest bidder H & K Group at a cost of $122,574.48. Roads that will be resurfaced in the project include West Columbus Avenue, East Mussmano and Marconi Avenues.
• Tabled discussion regarding a quote from Stanley Sweeping services for borough street cleanup. The cost is $172 per hour. Further discussion will take place at the borough workshop.
• The next blight meeting with various municipalities will be at 6 p.m. on April 3 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.
• The borough is still looking for an assistant code enforcement officer. The job is $15 per hour for up to 20 hours. Interested parties can obtain an application through the borough website.
• Approved giving a $2,500 donation to Lehighton Ambulance for borough ambulance coverage.
• National Night Out will be observed in the borough on Aug. 1. More details will be released at a later date.
