Local Roundup: Results from April 2

Panther Valley advanced into the championship game of the Rothermel Tournament by downing Marian on Sunday.

Panther Valley used a five-run second inning and solid pitching to defeat Marian 7-2 in the opening round of the Rothermel Tournament.

Stephen Hood blasted a three-run homer during the second frame - where the Panthers snapped a 2-2 tie.

PV starting pitcher Brad Hood allowed two first-inning runs but then settled in and tossed four scoreless frames. He finished with three walks and nine strikeouts. Stephen Hood and Michael Pascoe both followed with scoreless frames to secure the win.

Pascoe also did damage at the plate with three hits, two of them triples. He scored two runs and knocked in one. Cody Orsulak added a pair of hits - one a double - and two RBIs. Chase Weaver chipped in with a hit and two runs.

For the Colts, Mike Gelatko collected two hits - one a double - and knocked in two runs, while Chase Petrilyak ended with two hits and a run.

Panther Valley (4-0) will now face Shenandoah Valley in the tournament’s title game, scheduled for April 29. Marian (3-2) will play the same day in the colsolation round, where it will meet Minersville.
