Lehigh Valley Health Network is expanding access to cancer care in the Pocono region with the addition of two new physicians.
Dan Popescu, MD, is returning to LVHN and will join the world-class team providing leading-edge cancer care at Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute.
Popescu is board-certified and fellowship-trained in hematology and medical oncology, and previously provided care through Lehigh Valley Physicians Group.
He graduated from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and completed his residency at Pinnacle Health System. He earned his fellowship in hematology and oncology from Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
He will treat a wide range of cancer types with a focus on patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancers. Popescu will provide care at Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center in Monroe County.
Bogdan Protyniak, MD, a board-certified and fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon, will primarily serve patients in the Pocono region.
Protyniak earned his fellowship from University of Louisville and completed his residency in surgery at Monmouth Medical Center.
He treats all colorectal diseases, including colorectal cancer and anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis.
Protyniak has a particular interest in robotic and laparoscopic surgery, which is less invasive and associated with better patient outcomes including minimal pain and faster recovery. In addition, Dr. Protyniak performs colonoscopies and treats benign anorectal conditions including hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulae and pilonidal disease.
Dr. Popescu and Dr. Protyniak are currently accepting new patients.
