Local roundup: Results from March 31
A pair of Northwestern and Northern Lehigh teams earned victories on Friday.
The Tigers posted victories in softball and boys lacrosse action, while the Bulldogs earned baseball and softball wins.
Elsewhere, Weatherly earned a victory in softball action.
BASEBALL
Catasauqua-No. Lehigh
A pair of big innings highlighted Northern Lehigh’s 13-10 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.
The Bulldogs (1-5) erupted for eight runs in the first inning and added five more in the home half of the fourth.
Jack Tosh was 2-for-4 with a home run in the big first inning, three RBIs and a run scored for the winners. Christopher Vargas doubled twice and finished with three RBIs and a run scored. Nick Buskirk also had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI.
Hunter Reitz doubled twice among his three hits and had four RBIs with two runs scored for the Rough Riders (2-3), while John Pushkar was 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI. Christian Fye also had a double, three hits and three runs scored, and Matthew Fotta finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Fye, Pushkar, Reitz and Fotta – the top four hitters in the Catty lineup – combined for 10 of the team’s 11 hits.

PM West-Pleasant Valley
Four runs in the top of the seventh inning lifted Pocono Mountain West to an 11-9 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.
Eric Rivera was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored for the Panthers (3-3), who trailed 8-7 entering the final inning. Joey Ewing was 3-for-4 with two runs scored an RBI, while Will Mecca added two hits with an RBI and scored three times. Matt Munoz doubled and knocked in three runs, and Matt Marinovich doubled and scored twice.
Jack Smale doubled, tripled and had three RBIs and three runs scored for the Bears (2-4). Ben Mostosky doubled and knocked in two runs, and Michael Konopke also had two hits and a pair of RBIs, while leadoff hitter Nathan Loch tripled and scored once. Anden Bordick also had a hit and a pair of RBIs.

Northwestern-Kutztown
Kutztown rolled to a 10-1 non-league win over Northwestern.
Dalton Furst had three hits with an RBI and a run scored for Kutztown, while Bryce Schafer collected two hits and drove in a run and Dominick Pizzelanti had two hits and scored three times. Nick Hugo doubled with an RBI and a run scored, and Kole Schuler had a hit with two RBIs and a run scored. Bryce Schafer (six strikeouts), Matt Remick (two strikeouts) and Colten Mathias (three strikeouts) combined to allow just two hits in the contest.
Robert Croneberger and Wesley George had hits for the Tigers (3-3).

Jordyn Hemingway had four hits and scored three runs to lead Northern Lehigh to a 13-3 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Marissa Maehrer, Kaitllyn Stock, Emma Smith, and Arabella Heintzelman all had two hits for the Bulldogs. Maehrer also scored a pair of runs, while Smith and Heintzelman both drove in a pair. Candace Peters added a home run and four RBIs, while Skyelar Horack had a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Smith was the winning pitcher, tossing all five innings in the mercy-rule shortened contest. She struck out four and allowed five hits.

Kutztown-Northwestern
Pitcher Emma Freeman scattered six hits and struck out eight to lead Northwestern to a 3-0 non-league victory over Kutztown.
Sage Toman had two hits and scored twice to lead the Tigers offensively. Quinn Convey also had two hits, Abby Dunstan belted a solo home run, and Marissa Christian had a hit and an RBI.

The Weatherly bats erupted in an 18-0 win over Lincoln Leadership Academy.
Madisyn vonFrish was 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Wreckers (3-1), who pounded out 14 hits in the three inning win. Juliette Bartel added three hits, and also knocked in three runs and scored three times. Pitcher Kelly Michaels had two hits, a pair of RBIs and scored four times while also striking out four and allowing just one hit and a walk in the circle.
Raynessa Paulino-Diaz doubled among her two hits and finished with an RBI and a run scored, and Ava Sahaida added a pair of hits with two RBIs and scored twice in the win.

Liberty defeated Pleasant Valley, 5-0, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.
The Hurricanes posted dominant wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and swept the three doubles matches. The No. 3 singles match was suspended by rain.

Northwestern earned an 8-6 win over Nazareth.
The Tigers (4-1) got four goals from Blaine Snyder, and three goals and two assists from Austin Sosnovik. Stone Sosnovik had two assists, while Devon Hildebrand scored once and Bailen Smargiassi made eight saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Freedom-Northwestern
Freedom edged Northwestern, 16-14, in non-league action on Thursday.
In a match that saw eight cards handed out - five to the Tigers - Northwestern was forced to play a person down for the last 12 minutes of the game and two players down for the final six minutes. Despite being shorthanded, the Tigers took Liberty to final seconds before falling.
Alexis Vennera had six goals and three assists to lead Northwestern. Cara Thomas, Olivia Costa and Ava Collins all added two goals for the Tigers. Claire Costa chipped in a goal and two assists.
