Mobile home damaged in West Penn fire

A mobile home was severely damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon in West Penn Township.

Township fire Chief Jeff Bradford said firefighters were dispatched at 2:12 p.m. to the home at 747 Dairy Road.

“Upon arrival, we found flames through the roof of the mobile home structure,” Bradford said.

Bradford said it took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, though extensive damage was done to the home.

He said two people were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape. No one was injured.

Bradford said the cause of the fire appears to be a wood burner malfunction.

He said firefighters remained on scene for nearly two hours.

Bradford said assisting at the scene were the Tamaqua Fire Department, New Ringgold Fire Department, Walker Township Fire Department, East Penn Fire Department and Mahoning Valley Fire Department, along with tankers from Parryville, New Tripoli, and Hometown.

“In a rural setting, to leave a mobile home still standing, with 95% of the contents, was pretty good,” he said.
