Penn Forest discusses police coverage

Penn Forest Township supervisors have met with officials from Kidder and Franklin townships and Jim Thorpe Borough about extending police protection to Penn Forest Township.

Kidder Township was most interested, supervisors’ chairman Roger Meckes said.

Meckes and supervisor Jim Denier met with Kidder officials.

Kidder officials are asking to start a regionalization study, possibly with all four townships involved. Neither Franklin nor Jim Thorpe were interested in a four township study.

At a special meeting Feb. 24, supervisors voted not to renew the Granicus contract to oversee short-term rentals.

Deckard Technologies/Rentalscape will take over the work, with a 6-week period needed to get their system fully operational. Code enforcement officer Gregg Loftus has a new vehicle - a 2018 Ford Explorer bought via MuniciBid.

Supervisors approved a proposal by Josiah and Joann Behrens to add their 98.39-acre property on Behrens Road to the township’s agricultural security area.

The township will pay PPL to relocate the power pole and transformer at the Transfer Station to make room for upgrades there, to cost $7,634. Electronics recycling will be held the mornings of June 24 and Nov. 18 at the Transfer Station.

Supervisors will contract with Shiffer Bituminous to have their patching truck fill potholes, for up to three loads at $2,500 each.

Regarding the township park, Meckes commended all involved in the “very nice” veterans monument.

Barry Isett & Associates was approved to provide a study for a second bathroom building at the park. Barry Isett & Associates will look at building types and costs, sewer requirements and other issues. Cost will be $3,000.

Supervisors also approved getting plans done toward building a direct path to the pump track from the park’s parking lot for those with bikes.

The park committee was funded for this year’s festival, with a budget of up to $5,000, on 4-1 vote, supervisor Pat Holland voting no.
