Slatington man charged with stealing firearms from friend
A Slatington man has been charged with stealing multiple firearms and other items from his friend.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Slatington Police in the case against Raymond White:
On Jan. 18, police were dispatched to a home on Fourth Street for the report of a burglary.
The resident said she had returned home and found her front door had been forced open.
The Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Unit was dispatched for fingerprinting.
Five were stolen: a VEPR Semi-Auto Magazine fed Shotgun (valued at $1,100); a .556 AR Pistol ($2,200); a Girsan Regard 9 mm Pistol ($900); a Taurus G2C Pistol ($300); and a .22 Caliber Pistol with an unknown value.
Other stolen items included ammunition, gun cleaning kits, ear protection system with microphone, rifle scope; ammunition case; rifle bag, Gershan tactical holster, tactical range pouch and concealed carry holster, for a total value of $1,306.
The owner said he believed his longtime friend, White, 36, took the items.
He said he had sent pictures of his firearms and their location in his home to White via Facebook Messenger during a conversation which had taken place on Jan. 8.
On Jan. 18, the owner began making public posts to Facebook with photographs and video footage. He said he was able to identify the man in the video footage as White.
On Jan. 19, police received a phone call from White’s father who identified the man on social media as his son.
The resident also talked to a witness who said White was the man who entered the backyard of his residence on Jan. 18 carrying several bags.
The gun owner reviewed surveillance footage with police and identified White, the rifle bag and ammunition bag as his items that were stolen from his residence on Jan. 18.
White’s sister told police she messaged him because she recognized him from scene photos. He answered, saying that whoever stole the firearms no longer had them, as they would’ve had a buyer lined up and would have “gotten rid of whatever immediately.”
White also said, “Things that could be dropped would be but things that can’t just can’t,” followed by a statement in Italian that police translated to, “There is only one left. With pieces.”
White faces charges on six counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition; five counts of receiving stolen property; and one count of burglary.
He is currently incarcerated in the Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 6 at Lehigh County Central Court in Allentown.
