South Schuylkill Garden Club Events

Meeting

Gardeners sought to join a monthly group of like-minded individuals who wish to share and grow their knowledge. Please join the South Schuylkill Garden Club at its first monthly meeting of 2023, at 6:30 p.m. on March 21, at the UCC Church library on Route 61, next to PSU Schuylkill Campus.

Schuylkill County Master Gardener Tom Reed will speak on refurbishing and maintaining garden tools.

Club members and newcomers are asked to bring a favorite gardening tool and explain its value and use. Refreshments, social interchange, and a business meeting follow. For more information, call Kim at 570-739-2627 or email kamorgan11@gmail.com.

Bus trip

Native plants will be the focus of this year’s South Schuylkill Garden Club (rain or shine) Bus Trip to Mt. Cuba Center on May 11. In 2002 Mt. Cuba began its native plant trials and is a hot bed of information.

Upon arrival at the Delaware location, half the group will take a one-hour welcome walk covering garden history, viewing native plants, and learning how to apply at home; the other half will sit back and relax on a guided hayride through natural lands.

The groups will then switch programs, after which, an hour will be allotted for lunch (bring your own).

The afternoon begins with a lecture on enjoying natives year round followed by free time to explore the gardens and to shop for natives until 4 p.m.

For more information, including cost, call 570-345-2423 or 570-640-7511. Deadline for registration is April 11. The bus departs Giant parking lot in Cressona at 7 a.m. and returns there at 6:30 p.m. Mt. Cuba is not handicap accessible.
