State police at Frackville report on incidents

State police at Frackville report on the following incidents:

• Thomas J. McCarthy, 62, of Minersville, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash at 5:47 a.m. Feb. 2 on Interstate 81 in Kline Township.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Hyundai Veloster northbound when it veered to the left, crossing over the median and both southbound lanes before striking a guide rail.

Police said the operator left the scene and was later located on the shoulder of the interstate attempting to change a flat tire on the vehicle.

After showing signs of intoxication, he was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital (East), Pottsville, for a blood draw to determine his blood-alcohol content.

• A 47-year-old Nesquehoning man is facing DUI and drug possession charges after a traffic stop at 10:59 p.m. Feb. 16 at the intersection of Lincoln Drive and Oak Lane in Rush Township.

Police said after stopping the 2006 Cadillac they found the driver to be in possession of a controlled substance and to be impaired.

He was taken into custody without incident on the DUI charge. His name was not released.

• A 41-year-old Tamaqua man is facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop made at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the 800 block of West Centre Street in Mahanoy City.

Police said they stopped him driving a 2019 Chevrolet and learned there is an arrest warrant out against him, later discovering the drug paraphernalia. His name was not released.

• Katie L. Gladney, 32, of Mahanoy City, was cited with following too closely after a two-vehicle crash at 7:23 a.m. Feb. 18 on the Vulcan Hill Road in Mahanoy Township.

Police said she was driving a 2016 Mazda CX3 that struck the rear of a 2008 Ford Econoline 250 that was operated by Ismael Lopez Aguasanta, 48, of Shenandoah. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Police said Lopez Aguasanta suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital by the Mahanoy City EMS personnel
