A home suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out Sunday in Ross Township.
Leon Clapper, fire chief of the Blue Ridge hook and Ladder Fire Company, said the fire broke out at 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Mount Eaton Road and Route 115 in Saylorsburg.
Upon arrival, Clapper said firefighters found three-quarters of the roof burned through, which was coupled with high winds that were fueling the fire.
Clapper said a husband and wife made it out safely along with their dog. No firefighters were injured, he said.
The home sustained extensive damage, said Clapper, who added the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
He said firefighters were on scene for about 2 3/4 hours from the time of knockdown to extinguishment.
Clapper said the fire remains under investigation by a Pennsylvania state police fire marshal who was on site that day.
He said numerous fire companies from Monroe and Northampton counties assisted, along with fire police from both counties, Suburban Ambulance, and the Salvation Army, who provided refreshments for the firefighters.
Clapper said that at the same time firefighters were fighting that fire, they were also battling a 5 1/2-acre woods fire on Anchorage Road, about five miles from the house fire.
He said firefighters were on scene at the woods fire for about 2 1/2 hours, and that there some damage done to some of the wooded property.
Clapper said that fire was turned over to the Bureau of Forestry to check on the cause of the fire.
He said that between the two fires, there were about 15 different fire companies on scene.
“The cooperation from all the fire companies was excellent,” Clapper said. “Everything went very well.”
