A 62-year-old Effort woman is out $9,000 from what state police at Fern Ridge called “a medical scam.”

Police said they were summoned at 6:06 p.m. Feb. 13 to a property at Melody Lane and Merwinsburg Road in Chestnuthill Township where the victim reported the theft by deception case. Police said money and gift cards were stolen in the scheme.
