West Penn chips away at trail creation

West Penn Township continues to brainstorm about the creation of a walking trail along a portion of land that was donated to the township.

Township solicitor Paul J. Datte said the entire portion of the trail belongs to the township.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said the township plans to file for a grant.

“Not only does it benefit the township, it also benefits the gun club,” he said. “It’s just a timing element at this point.”

Datte said earlier this month that the township is looking into the railroad bed that was donated to the township, as well as to see what the township owned.

In January, the board announced that the township would like to begin clearing the brush along a portion of the 5.9 acres of land that was donated and the township later acquired in 2019.

The board also said then it would like to have ARRO Consulting, Inc., look into a grant to develop the trail.
