Two facing drug charges

Two Tamaqua residents are facing drug charges following separate incidents.

State police at Frackville said on Feb. 5 at 1:39 a.m. troopers initiated a traffic stop at South Main and West Laurel streets in Shenandoah. A passenger in the vehicle attempted to flee the scene. He was a wanted person and following a foot chase he was taken into custody. He resisted arrest, troopers said.

The suspect was identified as Richard Catena, 44. He was charged with drug possession and placed in the county prison in Pottsville on an outstanding warrant. West Mahanoy Township police assisted troopers.

The second arrest occurred on Jan. 23 at 9:19 p.m. Troopers conducted a traffic stop in Tamaqua, near the Five Point intersection, for an equipment violation. The vehicle driver did not stop and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado truck, disabled itself. The driver was identified as Stanley Samuel, 30. He was taken into custody without incident and was arraigned, troopers said, on drug related charges.
