School officials meet with state lawmakers

Superintendents and other leaders of 20 school districts in Schuylkill, Carbon, and Luzerne counties met with state Sen. David G. Argall, R-29, the chair of the Senate Education Committee, last week in Mahanoy City.

They discussed the value of face-to-face instruction, the teacher shortage, and ensuring the safety of students. They also discussed last week’s decision by Commonwealth Court declaring Pennsylvania’s education funding system unconstitutional.

“It’s important to have all interested parties at the table when considering how to better our education system - school administrators, teachers, students and parents,” Argall said. “I look forward to working with everyone to improve our education system and properly prepare our children for the realities of the 21st century workplace.”

Argall was joined by five members of the local state House delegation, including Rep. Dane Watro, R-116, Rep. Jamie Barton, R-124, Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-122, Rep. Tim Twardzik, R-123, and Rep. JoAnne Stehr, R-107.
