Palmerton Borough Council

Palmerton Borough Council approved the following items last week:

• A bid for sludge removal to Waste Management for a three-year contract in the amount of $306,645.

• The purchase of a property from the Tax Claim Bureau in the amount of $1,872. The property is a piece of land adjacent to the borough’s eastern edge. The borough is looking to purchase it because one of its stormwater outfalls is located on the property, and ownership of the property will make it easier for the borough to maintain the outfall.

• Repository sales of two properties by Carbon County. The properties are lots; one in the 500 block of Mauch Chunk Road, and the other in the 1000 block of West Princeton Avenue.

• A cellphone policy. This year’s budget allotted funds to purchase cellphones for the police officers for use in their borough duties. The policy gives guidance on use of the cellphones.

• An update to the drug and alcohol testing policy which was originally from 1995.

• The police department will hold National Night Out Aug. 1 in the borough park.
