Weissport Borough Council Vice President Thomas Ketchledge resigned from council at the monthly meeting on Monday.
Following the payment of the bills, before council began committee meeting reports, Ketchledge handed a handwritten note to President Arland Moyer.
“This is my resignation,” Ketchledge said. “As of tonight, I’m done.”
His note did not provide a reason for his resignation, but indicated his resignation is effective immediately. Ketchledge then left the meeting.
Borough Solicitor Gregory Mousseau said after Ketchledge left, “As of now, the clock is ticking on appointing a new council member. You have 30 days from today, the date he resigned, to fill the position.”
Mousseau said that if no one fills the position in 30 days, then someone who is a registered voter in Weissport can file a petition at the Carbon County Courthouse asking the judge to fill the position. The judge would then decide who fills the seat.
A motion was made to advertise for a replacement to finish Ketchledge’s term, which goes until 2026.
The new member must be a resident and registered elector of Weissport and meet the other qualifications necessary to be a council member.
Anyone interested in servicing on council should submit a letter of interest and a resume, and schedule a time to meet with the other council members.
