The West Penn Township board of supervisors last night appointed Clarence Alles to the position of vacancy board chairman.

Alles volunteered for the position after the board members declined to appoint Charles C. Snyder to the position. Chairman Tim Houser cited requirements that any person holding elective or appointive office cannot do more than $300 in annual business with that municipality. Snyder is president of Charles S. Snyder Inc., which exceeds that limit.

After Snyder withdrew his name from consideration, Alles volunteered to take the post.

The supervisors also appointed Lawrence Dubetsky to a three-year term on the township’s zoning hearing board.
