East Penn honors former supervisor

A moment of silence for former East Penn Township Supervisor David Bryfogle was led by supervisors’ Chairman John Strockoz at the opening of Monday’s supervisors meeting.

Permission was granted to Roadmaster Brandon Bradford to solicit bids to buy a single axle dump truck. Bradford said the process “takes about two years” and beginning now will “save money down the line.”

East Penn Township Fire Chief Brendan McArdle led a discussion about saving money to purchase new fire trucks to replace the aging fleet, saying that the average age of their trucks is about 27 years.

In addition to monetary support provided from the supervisors, the fire department raises money through fundraisers like Palmerton’s Community Festival.

McArdle stressed the importance of “planning for the future” and said that new fire trucks take time to build and that the “market for used trucks is not there anymore.” He added that he will investigate Local Share Account grants to help support truck purchases.

The company was awarded grants in the past.
