Residents still trying to catch loose dog in Carbon
A dog originally on the loose in Summit Hill is still believed to be on the run.
Tom Connors, director of the Carbon County Animal Shelter, said this morning “there’s been multiple sightings.”
“The last report it was spotted 8:55 p.m. last night (Sunday) on East Mountain Top Road, Summit Hill,” Connors said. “Originally, this dog was staying around Summit Hill; then someone said they spotted it in Jim Thorpe.”
Connors said that on Sunday afternoon, the dog was spotted over by Flagstaff Road “but they couldn’t get it (because) it kept running.”
Connors said there was a message that at 1 a.m. (this morning), the dog was spotted on someone’s porch.
“As far as I know, they didn’t catch it yet,” he said. “We have one trap we’re going to be moving, and someone has another trap they’re going to be using.
“We don’t want it to go too far, because if it bunkers down, we have a better chance of catching it.”
Connors added, “it’s quite possible there’s two dogs out there.”
“I can’t believe this dog has this much energy; it’s been on the run for eight to 10 days,” he said. We’re all trying.
“We have the same intention; to help this dog. If someone has it, that’s great.”
Unfortunately, Connors said he did not have an update on the two young white German shepherds that have been on the loose that belong to the same owner in the Mahoning Township area.
Connors said those dogs were running together, but became separated, and that the one was spotted without the other.
On Sunday evening, Eric Waksmunski, the owner of the dogs, said there had been multiple sightings Sunday in the area of 160 Pine Hill Road, Andreas and both shepherds were together.
His wife, Mary, saw them after she arrived but he said, was never able to get close enough as they went back into the woods.
People are urged to not chase these dogs or remove it, and should only call in sightings.
If people interact with the dogs at all, they will scare the dog and eliminate progress with trapping.
