Four apply for vacant council seat

Several candidates have emerged to fill a vacant seat on Palmerton Borough Council.

As of Friday afternoon’s deadline, four people turned in letters of interest, according to borough Manager Donna McGarry.

McGarry said borough council could look to appoint a new council member when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Council last week accepted the resignation of former Councilman Michael Ballard.

Ballard, who had served on council since 2012, cited health reasons for his resignation.

Whomever is chosen to fill the vacant seat will serve until the end of this year.
