The Slatington Farmers Market and Expo Center held their inaugural Slatington Wine Festival on Saturday. Judging by the number of people in line to get in, it looked like a success.
“This was a mutual idea, from one of our resident wineries,” said Amy Faust, general manager of the Slatington Farmers Market. “This is our first wine festival, and definitely won’t be our last.”
Ten area wineries plus 16 other vendors offered tastings and bottles for sale. With the wide variety of vintages on hand, there was something for just about everyone.
One of the vendors was Cellar Beast Winehouse, with locations in Andreas and Easton. Co-founder and head winemaker Matt Check was there along with Lauren Remaley, dinner pairing coordinator and wine representative.
“We are an old-world French winery,” Remaley said. “Everything we make is dry, with no additives or added sugar.”
Check learned his trade at the Wine School of Philadelphia, and has been making wine for about 10 years. Two years ago, he started his own winery, Cellar Beast Winehouse.
“I am from the Bethlehem area, and I wanted to keep my talents here, and help our Lehigh Valley wine world grow. My focus is to try to bring our winemakers together here and have more focus on the community,” Check said.
In addition to wine, other vendors were selling food items, clothing, decorations, and more. The SteelCreek Band provided musical entertainment.
The Slatington Expo Center is located inside the Slatington Farmers Market, all of which are inside the former Keystone Lamp factory on Route 873, about a mile away from the Slatington Bridge. The 4,000 square-foot expo center is available for rent. For information, visit the website at https://www.theslatingtonfarmersmarket.com/
