Schuylkill County dog licenses are now on sale.
Applications may be mailed to the Schuylkill County Treasurer, 401 N. Second St., Pottsville, PA 17901. The online sales link is www.padoglicense.com.
There is a $2 online fee per dog, said Treasurer Linda L. Yeich.
Please do not use a P.O. Box when applying online.
The fee for an annual license $8.50, and $6.50 if the dog is spayed or neutered.
Discount rates are available for dog owners who are over 65 and for people who are disabled. The discount rates are $6.50, or $4.50 if the dog is spayed or neutered.
Lifetime licenses are available for dogs that have been microchipped. Yeich said that a microchip tattoo is not a dog license, and that owners must fill out a dog license application for either a yearly or lifetime license.
A permanent identification verification form must be completed by a veterinarian along with a lifetime application. The permanent identification verification form is only valid for 30 days after completion by the veterinarian.
The fee for a lifetime license is $51.50 or $31.50 if the dog is spayed or neutered.
There is also a discount rate for people over age 65 and for people with disabilities. That rate is $31.50 or $21.50 if the dogs is spayed or neutered.
Licensing all dogs three months or older is a state mandated law. If a dog gets lost, a license is the best way to help reunite the dog with his or her owner.
The license fee is significantly less than a fine under a summary offense. License fees also help animal control, keep shelters running, and support the vital services of enforcement to protect dogs and the public.
