The holiday season has retreated and a new year has arrived, which means local and regional entertainment will kick back into gear over the next couple of weeks.
Mauch Chunk Opera House will host performances by a U2 tribute act and the Craig Thatcher Band. For animal lovers, Country Junction will host Pet Palooza.
Over in the Lehigh Valley, Disney on Ice skates into the PPL Center, with Broadway legend Mandy Patinkin set to perform at the State Theatre. The Wind Creek Event Center, meanwhile, will host “Dancing With the Stars” performances, among other events.

• Unforgettable Fire, 8 p.m. Jan. 13. A U2 tribute band, Unforgettable Fire was born on New Year’s Day in 1995. The group - featuring George Levesanos, Anthony Russo, Craig Kiell and Mick Normoyle - performs an array of U2 material. UF performed at The Cutting Room in New York City in 2015, at a 20th anniversary party for U2 fan site @U2. At the latter event, U2’s The Edge and Adam Clayton played two songs with UF.
• Craig Thatcher Band & Friends, 8 p.m. Jan. 14. The show will feature new arrangements of original tunes, along with covers of acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Rufus. The band features Thatcher, a clinician/ambassador for C.F. Martin & Co. of Nazareth, along with Chico Huff, Billy Wear and Cliff Starkey. Guests include Regina Sayles, Nyke Van Wyk, Billy Murnin and Brett Andrew. Also a guitar instructor and recording artist, Thatcher hosted the PBS television series “Behind The Guitar.”

• Pet Palooza, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 14. The event will include pet-store discounts, an exotic animal exhibit from noon to 3 p.m. and a treat for furry guests. In addition, Country Junction will hold a puppy pageant at 1 p.m. First, second and third places will win gift baskets, with ribbons awarded the top six. Competitors may register online or at the Arcade Redemption Center.

• BStreet Band, 9 p.m.Friday. Founded in the Scranton/Hazleton area, the BStreetBand performs the music of Bruce Springsteen. Originally named Star, the group moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey, in the summer of 1978. In May 1980, the group marked its first performance as Backstreets, named after a Springsteen album track. The tribute act, which eventually changed its name to BStreetBand, features Willie Forte, Glenn Stuart, Steve Lopresto and Steve Pozzelanti, among others.

• Disney On Ice: Let’s Celebrate, 7 p.m. Jan. 19-21, with additional daytime shows on Jan. 21 and 22. “Mouse-ter” of Ceremonies Mickey Mouse leads a parade of 50-plus Disney characters. Characters such as Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy will appear, along with an ensemble of Disney Princesses such as Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel and Tiana. Anna, Elsa and Olaf of “Frozen” will also come to life during the show, which will feature 14 classic and modern stories, along with 30 songs.

• Dancing With the Stars Live, 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday. “Dancing with the Stars,” which ran on ABC from 2005 to 2021, moved to the Disney+ streaming service this past fall. The cast includes Britt Stewart, Alan Bersten, Emma Slater, Gleb Savchenko, Brandon Armstrong, Alexis Warr, Sasha Farber and Kateryna Klishyna. Special guest Gabby Windey will serve as co-host.
• Sidewalk Angels Featuring Rob Thomas, 8 p.m. Jan. 14. Thomas released his first of five solo studio albums, “Something to Be,” in 2005. His discography includes four other solo sets, as well as four studio albums with Matchbox Twenty, which he co-founded in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. Thomas, who teamed with Santana for 1999’s “Smooth,” will hit the road with Matchbox Twenty in May. Thomas and wife Marisol’s Sidewalk Angels Foundation provides funds and support to no-kill animal shelters.
• Umphrey’s McGee: 25th Anniversary Tour, 7 p.m. Jan. 15. Formed in 1997 in Notre Dame, Indiana, the progressive rock/jam band features Brendan Bayliss, Jake Cinninger, Joel Cummins, Andy Farag, Kris Myers and Ryan Stasik. Umphrey’s McGee released its 14th and most recent studio album, “Asking For a Friend,” in 2022.

• Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14. Patinkin, a Chicago native, will perform Broadway and classic American tunes. Pianist Adam Ben-David will provide accompaniment. Patinkin won a 1980 Tony Award for his role as Che in “Evita,” and a 1995 Emmy for his role as Dr. Jeffrey Geiger in the CBS drama “Chicago Hope.” Along with his numerous Broadway and television credits, Patinkin has appeared in films such as “Yentl,” “The Princess Bride” and “Wonder.”

• Pocono Disc Golf Indoor Putting League, 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11. The six-week tournament, which will feature music each night, will run Wednesdays through Feb. 15, with the conclusion slated for Feb. 22. First, second and third places overall, as well as weekly winners, will receive cash and other prizes.
• Sherman Winter Craftfest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 14 and 15. This fourth Winter Craftfest will feature 70-plus craft vendor spaces.
