Frederica Winkler of Lansford, a veteran of World War II and a past commander of AMVETS Post 83, Lansford, was honored recently with the Post Commander’s Distinguished Service Certificate.
The 69-year-old Winkler was presented the award by Commander Leo Olsovsky for her “distinguished service to the post and the local community and to the principals of AMVETS.”
She served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in France and Belgium during the war, returning to Lansford in 1954 after the death of her husband, William H. Winkler.
Frederica is one of two women who served as post commander, the other being Elizabeth Hruska.
