State Police at Fern Ridge
State Police at Fern Ridge report on the following cases:
• David Malone, 57, of Pen Argyl, has been charged with a firearm sale or transfer offense.
Police said he entered the Dunkleberger’s Sports Outfitter store on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township and completed an application/record of sale to buy a Smith and Wesson M&P 9-mm pistol.
Police said a background check with the PA Instant Check System showed Malone was to be denied the purchase, resulting in the arrest.
• Police are investigating the theft of a package that was delivered to a Chestnuthill home by an Amazon driver.
Residents reported at 8:50 p.m. Dec. 13 that the delivery included a bed comforter valued at $60.
• State police were summoned at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 to a property on Eastbrook Road in Chestnuthill Township to investigate a report of endangering the welfare of a child.
But police said the investigation showed there were no signs of neglect of a 1-year-old boy from Effort.
Police said they received the call through the ChildLine system after the infant’s grandmother received a photograph of what appeared to be a chemical burn on the child. Police said the investigation showed the incident was an accident and not criminal in nature.
• Police cited Matthew Germosen-Guevara, 23, of Albrightsville, with theft of services after he allegedly placed multiple garbage bags and cardboard boxes in a dumpster he was not authorized to use.
It happened at 9:48 a.m. Dec. 18.
Police said they were called to Key Court in Chestnuthill Township where the victim advised him Germosen-Guevara was using the dumpster services without paying to do so.
• A 61-year-old Effort man is the victim of a theft by deception/identity theft incident that was reported at 3:47 p.m. Nov. 25.
Police said they were called to a property at Chipperfield Drive, Chestnuthill Township, where the victim reported someone opened a credit card in his name and made several charges.
• Joseph Sorokach, 27, of Pottsville, was charged after police were called at 4:01 p.m. Nov. 25 to a property along Leslie Lane in Penn Forest Township.
Police said an 18-year-old man from Jim Thorpe reported $2,070 was withdrawn by Sorokach from his online banking account.
Police said the investigation showed Sorokach completed the transactions by using the money on the Fan Duel and Draft Kings betting applications.
