A company owned by entertainer-businessman Wayne Newton has purchased the Tamiment Resort & Country Club in the Poconos.

Tamiment is located about 15 miles northeast of Stroudsburg and is a 500-room, 2,200-acre recreational complex.

Newton confirmed this morning his company, International Resorts, Inc., purchased the resort that was begun by comedian Danny Kaye.

Mortgage documents filed in the Pike County Courthouse listed the sale at $14.7 million. Newton said $8-10 million will be spent on upgrading the resort.
