Tamaqua posted wins in boys and girls basketball on Saturday, while Jim Thorpe’s wrestling team took first place at the Meadowbrook Christian Holiday Duals.
Palmerton, Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley also gained victories in boys basketball action, while the Northwestern girls won its fifth straight contest.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Salisbury-Palmerton
Brayden Hosier scored eight of his game-high 19 points during a big second quarter to help propel Palmerton to a 50-36 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.
The Blue Bombers, up by three after the first frame, used a 16-4 period to pull away from the Falcons.
Matt Machalik also tossed in 11 points for Palmerton, who improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.
Salisbury (1-4; 1-2) received 10 points from both Lucas Graver and Jake Zellin.

Tamaqua won its third game in a row by edging Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg 61-58 in a non-league contest.
The Blue Raiders, now 3-4, trailed by one entering the final quarter but put up 19 points in the fourth frame to earn the win.
Connor Dillon led the way for Tamaqua with 20 points, while Lucas Milot added 16.
The Spartans (3-2) received a game-high 27 points from Xavier Speers.

Jim Thorpe-Western Wayne
Kaiden Herron’s 21-point performance helped Jim Thorpe pull away from Western Wayne for a 54-31 non-league victory.
The win was the first of the season for the Olympians, who outscored the Wildcats by a 19-5 margin in the fourth quarter.
Herron tallied 10 of his points during the final frame to help Thorpe move to 1-5. The winners also received 15 points from Andrew Warner.
Western Wayne (0-3) was paced by eight points from both Aiden Keelan and Evan Dean.

Sean Hallenbeck scored 16 points to help Pleasant Valley register a 53-43 non-league victory over Bangor.
The Bears set the tone early as Austin Ratti nailed three three-pointers during a 15-8 first quarter.
PV (2-4) managed to hold off the Slaters by hitting 11 free throws in the final frame.
Ratti ended with 13 points, while Zach Prator chipped in with nine.
Bangor (4-2) received a game-high 31 points from Josh Giaquinto.

Northwestern-Pottsville
Northwestern’s Gavin Nelson scored a game-high 22 points but it wasn’t enough as Pottsville posted a 55-48 non-league victory.
Rylen Matlock scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the opening half as the Crimson Tide built a 16-point halftime lead. Nelson hit for 16 of his points in the second half, while Cayden Fitch added 10 but the deficit was just too much for the Tigers (3-4) to overcome.
The loss ended a Northwestern three-game winning streak.
Fitch finished with 12 points for the Tigers, while Pottsville (4-2) also received 15 from Amaree Bainbridge.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Salisbury-Tamaqua
A double-double from Lorelei Plasha helped Tamaqua hold off Salisbury for a 42-33 non-league victory.
Plasha scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Blue Raiders, who improved to 2-5.
The winners also received a big effort from Makayla Bartenope, who tallied eight points and collected 16 boards. Sarah Hope matched Plasha’s team-high of 12 points.
Hannah Kamp of Salisbury (0-4) led all scorers with 15 points.
The Falcons won the JV game by a 38-27 score.

Northwestern-Pottsville
Northwestern won its fifth game in a row, using a 23-point performance from Paige Sevrain to gain a 60-33 non-league victory over Pottsville.
Sevrain scored 19 of her points in the opening half as the Tigers raced to a 23-point lead. Brook Balliet also helped in gaining the big advantage as she tallied 11 of her 14 points during the first two quarters.
The Crimson Tide received a team-high 19 points from Jes Siminitus.
Northwestern improved to 6-1, while Pottsville fell to 1-4.

WRESTLING
Meadowbrook Chr. Holiday Duals
Jim Thorpe captured the team title at the Meadowbrook Christian Holiday Duals, posting a perfect 5-0 record.
Tamaqua finished with a 4-1 mark, with its only loss a 46-26 decision to the Olympians.
Panther Valley also participated in the event, going 2-3.
Thorpe’s Ridge Snyder and Steven Korte both finished 5-0 with two pins and a major, while Max Pfeifer ended the tourney with four falls. The Olympians also received three pins from Cael Heaney, Jayden Mantilla and Christopher Jacobacci.
The Blue Raiders, meanwhile, were led by Bradley Whalen, who went 5-0 with all five wins being pins. Jacob Hehn also posted a 5-0 mark with four falls, while Jacob Schlier had two pins and a technical fall in his 5-0 weekend. Tamaqua’s Brody Bryce and Gabe Erbe also contributed three pins.
For PV, Justin Kuehn registered three falls, while Mergim Bushati, Jah Bushati and Tevin Walsh both had two.
Carlisle Christmas Classic
Palmerton’s Derek King took third place at 139 pounds at the Carlisle Christmas Classic.
King went 5-1 in his matches, losing in the quarterfinals before battling back with four straight victories to earn third. In the third-place match, he registered a 2-1 decision win in sudden victory.
The Blue Bombers, one of 20 teams at the tournament, also had Josh Merkel and Dillon Lombardi earn seventh-place honors. Lombardi, at 133, went 4-2 and posted a pin in his seventh-place match. Merkel ended 3-2, gaining a 7-6 decision in the 127-pound seventh-place bout.
Also for Palmerton, Jayce Koch earned three wins - including a pin and a major decision.
