Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 16

The Lehighton and Marian girls basketball teams recorded wins on Friday, while the Tamaqua girls also were victorious in swimming action.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton used a big second half to gain a 43-18 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Indians, leading by six at the half, outscored the Blue Raiders by a 22-3 margin over the final two quarters. Megan Hauser scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the second half to pace Lehighton (3-4; 2-1), while Taylor Bowman added eight and Olivia Serfass tallied seven.

Makayla Bartenope finished with five points to lead Tamaqua (1-5; 0-3).

Shenandoah Valley-Marian

Marian rolled to a 64-26 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.

Frankie Martinelli scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half as the Fillies (5-1; 2-0) jumped out to a 41-14 lead.

Kerrigan Digris added 11 points to the winning cause, while Carly Minchhoff scored 10 points.

Hannah DeAngelo’s 12 points led the Blue Devils (3-5, 1-2).

Blue Mountain-Panther Valley

Kylie Conway scored a game-high 26 points to power Blue Mountain to a 66-28 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Conway registered 20 of her points in the first half as the Eagles built a double-digit lead. Blue Mountain (3-1; 2-1) then put the game away with a 22-2 third quarter.

The Panthers (4-3; 1-2) received a team-high 17 points from Maddison Maynard.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pleasant Valley-Allen

Jarod Moore scored a team-high 20 points for Pleasant Valley, but the Bears dropped a 69-50 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference decision to Allen.

Adrian Figueroa scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter when the Canaries used a 26-15 quarter to pull away from PV.

The winners received a game-high 26 points from Darius Brant.

Patrick Moore also chipped in with 11 points for the Bears (1-4).

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-Moravian A.

Tamaqua earned a split in its non-league meet with Moravian Academy.

The Blue Raiders posted a 98-66 victory in the girls meet, while the boys fell to the Lions 92-76.

Lexi Buchala recorded wins in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly for the Tamaqua girls, while Isabella Jones swam to victories in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Mia Jones, Lily McNutt and Andrea Betz. McNutt also won the 100 breaststroke.

Jathan Krall picked up victories in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Stephen Behun, Jack Tharp and Ethan DiBonafazio for the Blue Raider boys. Behun also won the 100 breaststroke.

Lehighton picked up a 47-10 victory over Tamaqua.

Caden Meek had 14 points for the Indians. Zane Lare and Luke Frohnheiser each had three points for the Raiders.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville posted a 61-14 win over Tamaqua.

Colin McGinley had a game-high 15 points for the Tide. Evan Meckes had four points for the Blue Raiders.

JR. HIGH GIRLS

8TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua picked up a 32-17 victory over Lehighton.

Lauren Ligenza paced the Raiders with 15 points, while Sienna Stellfox scored seven points. Wise had 10 points for the Indians.

7TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton knocked off Tamaqua for a 45-37 victory.

Serfoss paced the Indians with 13 points, while Wise added 10 points.

Millie Black led all scorers with 20 points for the Raiders, while Coleman scored five.
