Lights festival
The West End Food Pantry, Kunkletown, is hosting a Festival of Lights at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight. The event is free, including all activities.
Event reset
Due to the weather conditions the Family Gingerbread Night from Monday at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church was rescheduled for tonight at 7 p.m.
Eldred meeting
The Eldred Township Planning Commission meeting will be tonight.
PVHS concert
The Pleasant Valley High School Winter Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. tonight.
Las Posadas set
A colorful pageant symbolizing the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph searching for shelter before the birth of Jesus will take place at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville tonight.
That journey begins outside in prayer and song and ends in McCawley Hall for a traditional festival including dinner.
Coat drive now
The Pleasant Valley Middle School coat drive ends tomorrow. One can still bring in new or slightly used coats to B-6 until tomorrow.
Auxiliary party
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 927, Gilbert, are holding their Christmas party at 6 p.m. Friday.
Members are reminded to bring a dessert to share.
PVI happening
It’s Holiday Kids Night out for PVI students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 who are registered.
They will enjoy crafts and a movie night from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wreath making
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a wreath-making with Ruthie event Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Sign ups have been posted in the church entryway.
Suggested supplies are gloves, a staple gun, and pruning clippers.
Donuts, cookies and hot beverages will be provided.

Musical ahead
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting A Tree Lot Christmas, a children’s Christmas musical, at 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
There is no cost to attend this event.

West End Pantry
There will be a distribution at the West End Food Pantry on Kunkletown Road from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.
Volunteers needed
Monroe County Meals on Wheels has announced that it is in need for volunteers for the coming winter for all over the county.

Holy Communion
Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will celebrate Holy Communion this Sunday at both the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.
Christmas tea
Zion Lutheran is hosting its annual Christmas Tea after the 10:30 service on Sunday. The service will include special music by Zion’s choir.
Those worshippers planning to participate are asked to bring a plate of sandwiches or cookies to share.
After the service and the following tea folks are invited to help decorate the church.
Bird counting
The annual Pocono Mountain Christmas Bird Count will be held Sunday. Volunteers will take to the field to identify and count birds in designated areas. Bird watchers of all skill levels are welcomed.
Held under the auspices of the National Audubon Society, this count is part of a continent-wide effort to collect data that is used in assessing the health of bird populations and guiding conservation actions.

Blood drive held
There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. Appointments are still available as of column deadline time. To make an appointment go to www.redcrossblood.org.
PVHS PTO meets
The Pleasant Valley High School PTO will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
PHOTOart raffle
The American Legion Post 927 is holding a PHOTOart raffle at 3 p.m., Jan. 1, featuring artist Bobby “Tats” Putney’s 75 years of Storms and Service on a 30x20 signed print on stretched canvas with wood interior frame and signed.
Tickets, if not sold out, are on sale at Post 927.

New Year’s dinner
The Western Pocono Lions Club is holding a fundraising pork and sauerkraut dinner from noon to 3 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, Rt. 209 in Brodheadsville.
The meal includes pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll and dessert.

WE GOP meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Club will be at 7 p.m., Jan. 24, 2023, at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.
