Speed was a factor in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:33 p.m. on Nov. 30 along Route 209 in Polk Township, Monroe County, in which the driver sustained suspected serious injuries.
State police at Lehighton said Thomas J. Ruck, 31, of Effort, was driving a 2006 Honda Civic southbound at a high rate of speed, estimated at 80 mph, when the vehicle left the roadway and impacted a utility pole. The vehicle came to rest at the base of the pole.
Ruck was flown by medical helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhenburg, troopers said. He was cited for the crash.
