Schuylkill County judges sentenced two people charged by local police to state prison.
Brian Bartenope, 46, of West Hazleton, was charged by Kline Township police officer John D. Petrilla Jr. with retail theft and defiant trespass on April 28, 2019.
Judge Christina E. Hale accepted his guilty plea to retail theft and sentenced Bartenope to one to three years in state prison.
The sentence is to be served at the same time as his penalty in a Luzerne County case.
Hale gave Bartenope credit for 24 days already served.
The trespass charge was dropped.
Dennis Kowalski, 30, of Stroudsburg, was charged by West Penn Township police officer Glenn R.
Laninger with criminal attempt - theft by unlawful taking; criminal attempt - theft from a motor vehicle; possession of an instrument of crime; and loitering and prowling at night on March 6, 2022.
Kowalski pleaded guilty to criminal attempt - theft by unlawful taking and criminal attempt - theft from a motor vehicle.
Judge James P. Goodman accepted his guilty pleas, and sentenced Kowalski to three to 24 months in state prison on the theft by unlawful taking charge.
He also ordered him to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee and to pay a total of $200 in other fees.
His sentence will be served at the same time as his penalty in another case.
On the theft from a motor vehicle charge, Goodman sentenced Kowalski to three to 24 months, again to be served concurrently to the first sentence.
The remaining charges were dropped.
