A contract between Jim Thorpe Area School District and its teachers union, approved during a board meeting two weeks ago, is yet to be made available for public review.
Jim Thorpe’s school board took action on the contract Nov. 16 but, according to a response to a Right To Know request received last week, the approval was contingent on the solicitor reviewing the pact.
“Our solicitor has not yet given approval for the contract to be shared,” the district wrote in the Nov. 23 response.
After the district approved the contract with the Jim Thorpe Education Association, Board President Scott Pompa said he was pleased with the outcome.
“We have enjoyed working with the JTEA and their leadership as we worked to resolve this and I’m glad we reached this point where we have an agreement in place,” Pompa said.
The district and JTEA are coming off a one-year contract approved in September 2021, which called for teachers to receive a 2.8% raise between their regular step movement and an additional increase. That contract expired on June 30.
Jim Thorpe was also slated to vote on an Act 93 contract with its administrators on Nov. 16, but that item, according to district officials, is now on the agenda for tonight’s meeting. The board is scheduled to meet today at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
