Blue Mountain opens; ski resorts ready for season

Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton opened for its 45th snow season today. The weather didn’t cooperate but the resort had 50 acres covered with snow.

Ashley Seier, director of marketing, said that Blue is excited to open.

“Thanks to increased snowmaking efforts, we are opening with a record breaking amount of terrain,” Seier said. “This opening day will have over triple the amount of terrain available versus previous opening days.”

Seier said Blue is still looking to fill some indoor and outdoor positions for this ski season. Anyone interested in learning about open opportunities may visit skibluemt.com/careers/.

As it enters its 45th ski season, Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton is gearing up for 2022-2023 powder sessions with multiple upgrades.

They include a new high-speed six-person lift, snowmaking upgrades and new nighttime snow tubing experience.

The new lift, named the Main Street Express, replaces two double lifts and dramatically improves access to the terrain on the western part of the mountain – as well as connectivity between Valley Lodge and Summit Lodge. The new high-speed lift will transport riders from bottom to top in under five minutes and accommodate 3,000 guests per hour.

There is also new all-lit nighttime, after-dark Sonic Tubing with music and disco lighting. With 46 lanes, Blue Mountain is the largest snowtubing park in the country. Each lane is over 1,000 feet long. The tubing park is serviced by three lifts, and tubers can choose between single or double tubes.

Enhanced automation of the snowmaking system, including new snowmaking guns and LED lighting to make night skiing available on the 40th trail, which opened last season.

With these recent investments, Blue Mountain now has one of the largest snowmaking systems in the country.

Blue Mountain Resort has unveiled a fresh new tri-colored logo in time for the new ski season. The updated logo combines earthly elements – sun, mountains and terrain – resulting in a contemporary look with traditional nuances, positioning the property as a year-round retreat for both adventure enthusiasts and novices.

Blue Mountain isn’t alone, as all of the Pocono Mountains’ six ski resorts are gearing up for the 2022-2023 season while unveiling new, exciting enhancements on and around the slopes.

The terrain park has a new location and enhancements including automation, new designs, and a Next Gen Pisten Bully Park Pro 400 for creating precise and uniform park builds.

SkiLynx is being added to the resort’s app, allowing guests to live-track their total trails, miles, vertical feet, as well as find friends and view real time lift wait times.

Shawnee Mountain has added three new fan guns to the beginner’s area, two efficient snowmaking pumps, and continues to replace pipes across the mountain. Snowmaking covers 100 percent of all Shawnee’s 125 acres of skiable terrain, of which is now 90 percent fully automated.
