Tamaqua Area Middle School enrichment students recently visited local polling stations to experience how democracy operates, and why people are an important part of the process.
Enrichment coordinator Joseph Berezwick said when students visited the polls, they had a civics quiz to test voters’ knowledge on the government.
“After a person was done voting, my students would politely ask if they would be interested in taking the survey, and many people in town agreed to participate,” he said. “We got a lot of positive remarks and outreach from members of the community and people working the polling stations.”
