N. Lehigh accepts officer’s resignation

Northern Lehigh School District has filled its head of school security position.

On an 8-0 vote Monday, the school board accepted the resignation of Frank Gnas from his positions as School Safety & Security Officer/School Police Officer, effective at the end of the day Oct. 28.

Immediately afterward, the board agreed to transfer David Jones from full-time school police officer to School Safety & Security Coordinator/School Police Officer, at a salary of $60,000 (prorated), effective Oct. 31.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link praised Jones, whom he said will be an asset to the position.

After the meeting, Link explained the reason for Gnas’ departure.

“SPO Gnas chose to resign to explore other options,” Link said. “We are grateful for his service to the district and wish him well.”

In January 2019, the board approved Gnas as the district’s School Safety and Security Coordinator.

Also on Monday, the board approved the creation of a third full-time school police officer position to be funded through the general fund with the expectation for administration to apply for applicable grants to subsidize the cost.

Earlier in the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tania Stoker discussed the Pennsylvania Department of Education Safe Schools Targeted Grant - School Police Officer.

Director Michelle Heckman was absent.
