Senior Center

The menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for the week of Nov. 14-18 is as follows:

Monday: Chicken fingers, vegetable blend, spinach salad, brownie or deli sandwich

Tuesday: Smothered pork, boiled potatoes, Brussels sprouts, rice pudding or turkey Cobb salad

Wednesday: Swedish meatballs, buttered noodles, mixed vegetables, melon or turkey pita

Thursday: Lemon fish, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, fruit cobbler or antipasto salad

Friday: Chicken Parmesan, pasta, Italian vegetables, orange or turkey sandwich

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced upcoming events for Nov. 14-25.

Shut the Box tournament on Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.; Speaker on Medicare Fraud on Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m.; Birthday Bingo on Nov. 17 at 10:45 a.m.; Movie and Popcorn on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m.

Po-Keeno on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m.; Bingo on Nov. 22 at 10:45 a.m.; Game Day on Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. The center will be closed on Nov. 24 and 25 in observance of Thanksgiving.

New members always welcome.

Hometown Hero Banners

The Nesquehoning Veterans Banner program is now open for 2023.

If you would like to purchase a banner, applications are available at the VFW Post Home at 300 E. Center St.

Also if you purchased a banner in 2020, renewal applications were mailed to the sponsor of the banner and the retired banner may be picked up at the post home on or after Nov. 28.

The deadline to purchase a new banner or renewal is Jan. 13, 2023.

Veterans Day dinner

The Nesquehoning VFW is doing a spaghetti and meatball dinner for club members at VFW on Veterans Day.

Regular members and veteran social members eat for free. Everyone else is $8.

The event begins at noon and goes until supplies run out.

Historical Society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.

The society, located at 1 W. Hazard St., recently received a donation of Charles Cunningham coal carvings by Robert Gormley. Many area residents are familiar with the intricate coal items that Mr. Cunningham carved. They are now on display.

The society is also pleased to invite everyone to our open house/Christmas Party to celebrate its 25th anniversary on Dec. 14. Free Range Folk will present a concert at 7 p.m.

The museum will open at 6 p.m. for browsing and after the concert for refreshments. This is a free venue. Snow date is Dec. 15.
