Barton to represent 124th in Pa. House

Republican Jamie Barton of East Brunswick Township will be the new state representative in the 124th Legislative District.

Barton, an executive with Jack Rich Inc., an energy business, soundly defeated Democrat Tina Burns of Tamaqua in Tuesday’s election, winning by close to 10,000 unofficial votes.

Returns show Barton had 18,124 votes, compared to 8,128 for Burns, a health care consultant.

Barton will succeed Rep. Jerry Knowles of Hometown, who is retiring.

The district includes part of Berks County, including the townships of Albany, Greenwich, Maxatawny, Tilden, Upper Bern, Upper Tulpehocken and Windsor and the boroughs of Hamburg, Kutztown and Lenhartsville, and part of Schuylkill County, consisting of the townships of Delano, East Brunswick, Rush, Ryan, Schuylkill, South Manheim, Walker, West Brunswick and West Penn and the boroughs of Auburn, Coaldale, Deer Lake, Landingville, New Ringgold, Orwigsburg, Port Clinton and Tamaqua.
