Lehigh Co. museum to hold ancestry talk

“The Peopling of the Americas - How and When - Did the Ancestors of Native Americans Arrive in North and South America” is the subject of a lecture with noted archaeologist Dr. Kurt Carr.

Carr will speak at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“This is the ancient story of the first humans ever to set foot on American soil,” said Joseph Garrera, Executive Director of the Museum. “Who were they? Where did they come from? When did they arrive? How did they migrate across the continent?”

Archaeologists have long debated how, when, and where the last major migration of people from the Old World to the Americas occurred.

Now recent archaeological investigations from Ice Age sites in Siberia and the west coast of the Americas have shed important light on this intriguing mystery.

Dr. Carr’s presentation will explore the most recent archaeological evidence, and unravel the fascinating ways in which genetic DNA evidence has helped trace the migration.

Admission to the program is free to members, $8 for adult non-members, and $3 for non-member children. Masks are recommended but not required.

The Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum is a 30,000 square foot teaching institution, located at 432 W. Walnut Street in Allentown. Parking is available in the rear of the Museum, on the street, and in nearby lots.
