Man charged with break-in, assault

A Schuylkill County man has been charged with breaking into a home and assaulting a woman in Chestnuthill Township, state police at Fern Ridge say.

On July 23, 2020, state police were dispatched early in the morning to the 1100 block of Bluegrass Lane for a report of a woman yelling in the street while handcuffed.

The woman told police she woke up that morning and a man was lying next to her in bed wearing gloves and a ski mask.

She told police that when she approached him, he wrestled her to the ground and handcuffed her, but she escaped while still being cuffed.

She was sent to the hospital and the handcuffs, ski mask and gloves were recovered from the scene, police said.

At 2:04 a.m. March 28, 2021, police were sent to the 1100 block of Bluegrass Lane for a report of a person looking into the woman’s window.

Police apprehended Mark Everitt, 45, of Frackville. A jacket, gloves and bandana were taken as evidence.

Forensic tests matched them to items taken from the earlier incident.

Everitt gave a DNA sample on June 14 after a search warrant was executed. His DNA was a match with DNA found on the ski mask from the 2020 incident.

Everitt faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary, criminal trespass/simple trespasser, kidnap to inflict injury/terror, unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury, and false imprisonment.

He is in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $10,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 2 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
