Election Preview: Meuser has opposition in 9th District

Residents of Schuylkill County who reside in the Times News coverage area will vote for congressional representation in the 9th District.

The current officeholder is Rep. Dan Meuser, a Republican from Luzerne County.

He is challenged by Democrat Amanda R. Waldman of Lycoming County.

The district includes all of Bradford, Columbia, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties and parts of Berks, Luzerne and Lycoming counties.

Both Meuser and Waldman were unopposed in the May Primary Election.

Meuser has represented the district since Jan. 3, 2019.

Before joining Congress, he served as the head of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue from 2011-15 under Gov. Tom Corbett. He also was the president of the Pride Mobility Corporation, a motorized wheelchair manufacturer.

Waldman’s professional experience includes working as a Medicare appeals representative. She attended Pennsylvania College of Technology and Bloomsburg University.

A U.S. representative’s base salary is $174,000.
