Franklin Twp’s deli’s food travels to Phils game
It may not have changed the outcome of the box score, but it filled the bellies of several fans who traveled to Philadelphia Thursday for Game 5 of the 2023 World Series.
Caitlin Moyer, owner of Cindy’s Deli in Franklin Township, sent a tray of hoagies down with a family who took them to Citizens Bank Park in advance of the game between the Phillies and Astros.
“There’s actually customers that were able to win the lottery (through Citizens Bank Park and Major League Baseball), and so they were taking hoagies down to tailgate, so I kind of spun that I was sending the tray with them with some kind of Juju Phillies sports magic,” Moyer said. “I was hoping to send some vibes; unfortunately we didn’t get that, but there’s still hope.”
Moyer said she sent 6-foot-long hoagies and cut them into three pieces so that it would be enough to feed about 15 people.
Originally, she said the tray was supposed to go for the game this past Wednesday, but didn’t due to the postponement of the game from Halloween on Monday.
While the business offers a nice variety of options to choose from, Moyer said hoagies are its biggest seller.
“It’s kind of what we’re known for,” she said.
An admitted “big Philly sports fan, Moyer has been known to dress the part as well.
“When they played on (last) Friday, I had all my Phillies garb on, my jacket, Bryce Harper home run hat,” she said. “I’m a huge Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, The Union; I’m an equal opportunity sports fan.”
So, what does Moyer believe the chances are the Phillies can fight back from a 3-2 deficit?
“I didn’t really want to go back to Houston if we didn’t have to,” she said. “What I can see is that this team rallies around disappointment; I’ve seen that a handful of times where they’re able to take their mistakes and errors and turn that into something really positive.
“They know that the fans are loyal to them, and we will keep hoping and keep the Phaith (faith). “I’m hoping they’ll take the energy to Houston and just know there’s still hope and a battle to be won and bring the World Series (championship) back to Philly.”
