A Tamaqua teenager died after he accidentally shot himself in the head Wednesday night, borough police said.
According to police, officers and Tamaqua EMS were dispatched to 304 W. Spruce St. at 10:10 p.m. for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, they found Kenneth Klotz, 19, in the basement.
Emergency responders immediately administered CPR and transported Klotz to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital in Coaldale, where he was pronounced dead.
Police learned that Klotz was in the basement hanging out with Connor Fredericks, 19, who lives there, and three minor friends. Police said the gun was in a basement drawer.
Witnesses told officers that Klotz began playing with the gun and waving it around. He loaded one bullet into the firearm and when he put it to his head, it instantly discharged.
Police identified the gun as a Taurus Brazil 357 and owned by Wendy Fredericks, of that address.
