All-time New York Yankees great Yogi Berra arrived in Lansford this morning for “Yogi Berra Day,” during which time the baseball idol of youngsters around the world paid tribute to Little League Baseball players in the Panther Valley area.

Berra’s visit here was arranged by his friend, the Rev. Emil Sopoliga, pastor of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Lansford, who last year promised the children of the community the special visit by the former Yankee great.

Yogi and his wife, Carmen, were escorted into the county by Carbon County Sheriff Louis “Butch” Lisella and accepted a three-foot hoagie from Hoagie King Tommy Baldini of Summit Hill.
