Carbon County Court - DUI sentencings

Carbon County Judge Steven R. Serfass sentenced the following defendants in driving under the influence cases:

Paul Robert Moon, 34, of Weatherly, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, and license suspended for 18 months. He was arrested on July 7, 2021, by Palmerton police.

On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was sentenced to serve two to 12 months in prison, concurrent with the DUI charge, and render a total of 150 hours of community service.

He was given credit for a total of 19 days already served.

He is an inmate in the Luzerne County prison on other pending criminal charges.

Chrystal Sue Johnson, 54, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. On a driving under suspension count she was fined $200. She was given credit for three days served and paroled.

She was charged on Sept. 6, 2019, by Lehighton police.

She also previously pleaded to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the DUI charge, and ordered to render another 25 hours of community service.

That charge was Feb. 6, 2021, by Nesquehoning police.

James George III, 37, of Nescopeck, Luzerne County, was placed in the county’s Restrictive Conditions of Probation program (house arrest) for 60 months with the first 120 days on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, get a mental health evaluation, supply a DNA sample and render 100 hours of community service.

He was arrested on July 22, 2019, by Franklin Township police for DUI of a controlled substance.

Frank R. Trautz, 38, of Scotrun, Monroe County, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.

He was charged on May 14, 2021, by Lehighton police.

He begins serving the jail term at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Careen Delacuesta, 50, of Coaldale, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service. It is a first offense.

She was charged on June 27, 2021, by Lehighton police.

Cody Langille, 21, of Wind Gap, Northampton County, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was charged on April 8, 2021, by state police at Lehighton.

He is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison and began the jail term immediately.

Matthew Shoup, 60, of Norristown, Montgomery County, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was charged on Oct. 19, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge.

He was given credit for one day already served and will begin serving the remaining four days on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.

Mariah Lee Lewis, 29, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. She was given credit for six days already served and paroled.

She was charged on Jan. 9 by state police at Lehighton.

She was also placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the DUI charge, on a count of false identification to law enforcement. She was arrested on Sept. 28, 2019, by Mahoning Township police at Walmart store. She must also make restitution to Walmart for $7.56 and render a total of 50 hours of community service.

Dennis Gera Kowalski, 28, of Stroudsburg, was sentenced to serve 12 to 84 months in a state prison, pay a fine of $2,500, license suspended for 18 months and supply a DNA sample. The term runs concurrent with a state prison term for another DUI imposed in Monroe County which he is serving now.

He was charged on Jan. 9 by state police at Lehighton.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation.
