The Lansford AMVETS announced John E. Lauer of Lansford, a former teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in the community, will be the recipient of the 15th AMVETS Distinguished Service Award during an upcoming dinner at the post home in which a capacity crowd is expected.

Lauer will receive the award from Jack Steber of Jim Thorpe, post commander, honoring the retired educator for his civic endeavors and contributions.

William T. Richards of Lansford, a retired educator and school administrator who worked closely with Lauer, will be the keynote speaker. Also slated to address the assemblage is Lansford Mayor Leonard Fredericks.
