State Police at Pocono barracks report on turnpike crashes:
• A 2017 Chevrolet Impala needed to be towed from the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike after a mishap at 9:05 a.m. Oct. 24.
State police at the Pocono barracks said Tyson M. Turner, 65, of Auburn, New York, was driving the vehicle southbound at milemarker 73.6 in Mahoning Township when the vehicle left the lane of travel due to driving too fast for road conditions. It struck a concrete traffic barrier with its front driver’s side.
Turner was uninjured, police said.
• A passenger in one of two vehicles that were involved in a crash on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike was injured and transported to the hospital after the incident.
It happened at 3:17 p.m. Oct. 22 at milemarker 80.4 in Franklin Township, resulting in Dominic S. Schappell, 20, of New Tripoli, being transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. Police said the severity of his injuries is unknown.
Police said the crash happened when Sulaiman S. Ismail, 23, of Kingston, driving a 2013 Ford F-150 northbound, approached a slow/stopped traffic area at a speed greater than is reasonable to come to a complete stop. He swerved abruptly to avoid a collision and lost control of the vehicle as it traveled into the right lane, striking a 2008 Chrysler Aspen driven by Jeffrey L. Schappell, 58, of New Tripoli.
Police said Ismail will be cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
