Where could you find a circus, a lion and Elvis on Saturday?

Not Las Vegas.

It was in the 114th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade, an hour-long march that covered the Main streets of Slatington and Walnutport.

In the parade, the Northern Lehigh Youth Athletic Association had a float and marchers, dressed as clowns, with a circus theme. The float had a circus ring decor with balloons forming an archway. It won first place in the large float division.

The lion was a decorative feature on a float by the Slatington Lions Club.

And then there was Elvis, a lone individual holding a mike on a float who looked like Elvis but fell short on his singing ability.

Creativity was on full display during the three-division parade organized by the Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade Committee.

The parade traveled the entire length of the Main streets in Slatington and Walnutport, beginning at Victory Park and ending at Walnutport Plaza.

The grand prize, which was The Judges’ Award, was given to the Rhythm & Sole Dance Center.

One of the unique units was the Bethlehem Carriage Company, which made its debut in the parade and won first place in the small group category. The contingent was led by a thin man dressed in black, riding a black horse and carrying a sickle.

He was followed by an eerie float and some marchers.

There were two ghostbuster themes.

Numerous groups from Northern Lehigh High School participated, including the high school band, cheerleaders, football team and field hockey team. Youth groups from Northern Lehigh, including football players (Mad Bulldogs) and baseball teams, also marched.

Two high school bands marched. Besides the Northern Lehigh High School Band, the Northwestern Lehigh Band provided musical selections. Members of the Northwestern band wore costumes, some which had lights attached to them.

Other bands were the Fralinger String Band and the Lehighton-based Perseverance Jazz Band.

Small Group - 1. Bethlehem Carriage Company, 2. Pleasantly Plump Cleaning.

Individual - 1. Lehigh Valley Ghostbusters, 2. Paul Green.
