Former Lansford man gets 15 years in drug, gun cases

A former Lansford man will spend up to 15 years in jail on drug and gun charges.

Daquawn B. King, who is in the state prison at Rockview, Centre County, was charged by then Coaldale Police Officer James E. Bonner with violating drug and firearms laws on July 3, 2020.

King’s sentences stem from pleading no contest on Oct. 24 to illegally possessing firearms, and to carrying them without a permit.

On June 15, a jury found him guilty of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

President Judge Jacqueline L. Russell sentenced King to serve 4 to 8 years in state prison for possessing firearms illegally; pay court costs and $1,802 to the State Police Crime Lab in Bethlehem; and to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.

He’ll serve the sentence at the same time as another prison sentence imposed in Carbon County and one in Schuylkill.

On the charge of carrying a firearm without a license, she sentenced him to 3 to 7 years in prison, to be served after he completes the first sentence.

On the charge of possession of a controlled substance, Russell sentenced King to serve 1 to 2 years, at the same time as the first sentence. She also ordered him to pay $444.50 in court costs, and $100 in fees.

Russell sentenced him to 15 to 30 days on the marijuana charge, to be served at the same time as the first sentence.

On the paraphernalia charge, Russell sentenced King to 12 months probation, to be served at the same time as the first sentence.

Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II in June sentenced King to serve a total of 3 1/2 to 7 years for shooting at an occupied car.

Also in June, Schuylkill County Judge James P. Goodman sentenced King to 1 to 5 years for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and 30 days to 6 months for driving while his license was suspended or revoked.
