October 27, 1977 - Slatington’s Barry Eckhart is the area’s highest finishing boys runner at the annual District 11 cross country meet held at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Cressona. Eckhart places eighth in the 2A race to help the Bulldogs, coached by Glenn Rissmiller, place fourth in the team standings. Slatington also receives a 14th from Bruce Kemmerer, while Tamaqua’s Rick Paisley crosses in 15th place. In the girls competition, Weatherly’s Donna Trapchak turns in a time of 12:33 to take third place in the 2A field. Betsy Shiner of Slatington finishes 11th.
